Punic War Warmaster Campaign - Battle Report 1 |
We played our first big game of Warmaster Ancients at
the FOTOG 30JUL05 Game Day. We ended up being able to
combine 1805 points of Carthaginians and 1790 points
of Republican Romans.
On the Carthaginian side we had James (from Albrights)
as CinC, with Rodger as his left wing commander, and
Jeffry on the right. The Carthaginian
Force had huge horde of Gallic Warbands (9 units) as
well as the normal African and Spanish units. They did
manage to field one unit of elephants.
The Romans were led by Mike, with Don on the left wing
and James on the right. Pretty standard Republican Roman
Army with some 12 full units of Maniples and 2 Triarii
as well as the usual cavalry, ally and skirmish support.
Below - Don, James, and Rodger split up the forces.
The game lasted
six turns. The wing commands had much difficulty moving
forward, but the centers under the
CinC’s closed quickly and pretty much mauled each
other. The Carthaginians had the upper hand in the center
in the end, and if they could have got their Elephant
and Shock Cav in quite possibly would have broken the
Roman army, as the Elephants and Shock troopers were
staring right down on an already damaged Triarii brigade.
But as you can guess they choked and never got in the
fight. On the Romans following turn, James finally got
his main brigade to roll like a wave into Rodger’s
piecemealed units and take the game for Rome.
Below - The centers clash!
A fun fight that took about 4 hours, maybe three and
a half if you cut out the rules overview. Not bad for
six players all playing for the 1st time!
Special thanks has to go to Kieth and Rob for graciously
lending troops to let this battle happened!
